This is a very nice Brown and Sharpe dial indicator. It's a model 8241-942 and has a range of 1.000 in. and .001 graduations. It says on the front dial face "shock-proof, jeweled, made in the U.S.A. The crystal has some very light scratches but definitely doesn't hinder readings in any way. It has the rotating dial face with locking feature to zero readings. The jeweled movement is very smooth throughout the entire range. It has a previous owner scribe mark on the side which is the number 021 (some type of serial number I guess). The rear of the indicator has some paint missing which you can tell is just flaking and didn't come from scratching or being abused. The top of the indicator has a receptical with threads for an attachment I guess. There is a slight crack in the area of the threaded receptical, however, it doesn't appear that it would prevent an attachment from being threaded into it. I don't have one to try it out. As stated, the jeweled movement is very smooth throughout the entire range and I know this indicator would be a great addition to someone's toolbox. Any questions please ask.
