The new drills were designed with twisted coolant holes that pass through the drill flutes. The new design leaves more room for the chips to flow out of the hole uninterrupted. The coolant holes do not pass through the center core of the drill, therefore, the drill is stronger and more resistant to torsion. Along with the new drills, three new insert sizes are being introduced. The new SOMX inserts in 05, 06 and 07 sizes are thicker than the former SOMT and XOMT 06 inserts. It is a coated, submicron substrate with a thick (16 µm), multilayer MTCVD coating comprising TiCN Al2O3 and TiN as the external layer. IC9080 is recommended for machining cast iron and alloy steel.
