S. Electrical Motors’ Shaft Mounted Speed Reducers (SMR) adapt the speed of an electric motor to the driven machine. The selection of an SMR depends on the motor power (P) expressed in horsepower and the required output shaft speed (n) expressed in RPM. T (in.lbf.) = n x System Efficiency System efficiency = (reducer efficiency) x (belt drive efficiency) The overall ratio (i) of the drive system = motor speed (n) Shaftmount Speed Reducers utilize high quality cast iron housings for durability and protection. The input shaft is made from nickel chromium molybdenum steel, and the gears are precision finished and case hardened. The SMR contains a unique tapered bushing design to simplify mounting and removal. This tapered bushing design also reduces the risk of "fretting corrosion." Ball, cylindrical and tapered roller bearings are used throughout the SMR range accommodating both overhung and thrust load conditions. SMR’s are available in a range of seven sizes from 107 through 315. Capabilities include output torque up to 55,000 in. lbs., and nominal ratios of 5:1, 15:1 and 25:1. The SMR is a high efficiency product and has excellent reversibility. Unique tapered bushing is designed for easy and versatile mounting on the driven shaft. A wide range of bushing bore sizes are available for each type. Ribbed housing is precision machined in matched pairs for maximum strength, rigidity and permanent gear alignment. Magnetic drain plug is standard. Case carbonized helical gears are hardened to 60/64 Rockewell C, crown shaved and ground. A backstop is available from the factory or as an easily installed kit. Cylindrical roller bearings are used on input shaft for high radial load capacity. Double-lip seals are installed on ground and polished shafts. Oversized taper-roller and ball bearings are used for long gearbox life. The hollow shaft is protected by a removable cap. Torque arm bracket can be mounted in three positions.
